Thirty Seconds To Mars headed to the UK in March for a handful of shows as part of their Monolith Tour (after seven shows in mainland Europe). The tour preceded new album, 'America', out on April 6th via Interscope Records - with Birmingham being the final night before a break for the album release and then more shows in Europe. Guitarist Tomo Milicevic missed the UK shows to deal with some personal matters, according to the band, so the shows featured just Jared and Shannon Leto, with the set noticeably shorter than usual with songs such as 'From Yesterday' and 'Attack' missing. Opening with 'Up In The Air', after the Monolith intro, frontman Jared was full of energy and covered all areas of the stage to sing to fans who were surrounding the stage situated in the middle of the arena. Jared's voice was in great shape and everyone WAS up in the air, bouncing up and down for almost the duration of the show - with only the occasional slower song such as a cover of Rihanna's 'Stay' (dedicated to the old school fans) easing the pace. Fans were invited onto the stage for final number 'Closer To The Edge', which wrapped up the fun night on a high.
