assidy, who has been involved in music from
Ca young age (her dad taught her to play the
guitar at the age of seven), had already announced
that her sophomore full-length release is her stepping
‘even more into who she is as an artist’, telling the
world, ‘This is the most honest and raw I’ve ever been
with songs. This record feels like it’s a part of me. Like
reading a diary of my life over the past couple of years’.
With 'Butterfly’ in mind, Black Velvet begins by asking
Cassidy in what way does she feel 'Bittersweet' is her
becoming a butterfly.
Cassidy explains, “I think, for a long time, I was in
a situation where I was very much silenced and made
to be a certain way on stage, in terms of the songs I

on the popularity of their debut tour in 2024 came to a
crashing and crushing halt when Cassidy went through
a sudden, unexpected and ugly breakup with the re-
mainder of her band, which also represented a per-
sonal relationship breakdown, as well. It was a double
whammy and one which could have easily derailed her
promising career, but she was able to harness this into
positivity for the new songs. And it speaks volumes that
someone, especially as young as Cassidy, is able to
speak at ease and so openly about the subject and
how she has turned such a negative experience into
something positive, as many would struggle to do so.
Her comments echo the opening lyrics of the song
which read, ‘I laid down but I stood my ground, like you
wanted, like you wanted and I shut up, but I screamed
out loud. Like you wanted, like you wanted. You don’t
