ne of the newest sanctuaries in the UK is Polesworth
ODonkey Sanctuary in Tamworth, Staffordshire, who
celebrated their 2nd anniversary at the end of March. But,
despite the name, the sanctuary is not just a donkey sanctu-
ary. In the two years that the sanctuary has been active, the
sanctuary have rescued nearly a dozen donkeys, numerous
goats, pigs and sheep, as well as alpacas, chickens, ducks,
a turkey, pony and rabbits. We visited on their two-year an-
niversary open day, where there were stalls selling everything
from soap to jewellery and food.
When you enter the sanctuary, the donkeys will be the
first animals that you see. But after following the path around,
you will come across all of the other animals in their own pens
and areas. The pigs are both old and young, big and small.
There are some very cute piglets. The goats and sheep ea-
gerly await feeding, and will lean over the fence if they smell
or hear the rustle of food. You can buy a bag of animal feed
for £1. Be careful feeding the pigs though - don’t do it like we
did, holding out our hand with the food on, as the big pig de-
cided to almost bite our hand off!
The sanctuary is not only open on Open Days, but you
can visit them on a normal day too. You can also purchase
various packages. There are donkey experiences where you
have the opportunity to walk, groom and feed a donkey,
