They play new song, ‘100%’, before which, Jordan tells
the crowd, “The song used to be called 9½%. And then we
bumped it up a few percentages to 99%. But now, now, be-
fore the record comes out, the song is called ‘100%’.” The
song fits in right at home with the rest of the lively set, pro-
voking the band and fans to jump up and down to it. The
band are one of the few that have not strayed far from their
roots, and, as such, if you like their early classics, you’ll love
the new songs. It has our 100% approval. ‘Laugh It Off’ is
another new song that is played, and also goes down a
treat.
‘Failure’s Not Flattering’ is a crowd favourite, the catchy
pop-punk gem has the entire audience singing along at the
top of their lungs and bouncing around. The uptempo pace
only lessens slightly for the romantic ‘Kiss Me’ (the band’s
cover of the 1998 Sixpence None The Richer hit from ‘From
The Screen To Your Stereo Part II’). Jordan temporarily for-
gets that it’s a Friday night when asking the people sat in
the balcony if they have work tomorrow (since working peo-
ple sit in the balcony, according to him). “Jordan, it’s Friday,
man,” he’s promptly told. “Oh yeah, it’s Friday… I’m all
screwed up because we flew here and then we play.”
There appears to be a fight in the audience at one point,
which Ian Grushka calls out. “Calm down,” he says. “One
go this way, one go that way.”
While ‘Understatement’ wraps up the main set, the best
is kept until last with melodic pop-punk tune ‘My Friends
Over You’ completing the show, the entire audience singing
along, crowd surfers galore, and confetti shooting out of the
cannons again. Tonight, New Found Glory gave it, not 9½,
not 99, but definitely 100%.
